10 On The Weekend is a weekly (-ish) feature in IMI, the concept of which is simple: Each time, we ask the same ten questions of a different IMI Pro, letting readers get to know the interviewee on a more personal and informal level than they might during the ordinary course of business.

Our guest this week is Ladislas Maurice, Founder of The Wandering Investor

How do you spend your weekends?

I typically spend my weekends reading, spending time with my family, and attending Holy Mass.

I travel a lot, however, so I get less family time than I would like at the moment.

What are your top three business goals this year?

This business has operated from the start without having real goals.

It just grows organically based on doing what we find interesting and what will delight our clients.

What’s your biggest business concern right now?

It may seem like an odd one, but it is SIM card and two-factor authentication (2FA) issues that lock me out of my accounts while I am on the move!

Which book is on your nightstand right now?

It is Mort à crédit by Louis-Ferdinand Céline.

I never read business books. I prefer French and Russian classics.

How and when did you first get into the investment migration industry?

I think that my early exposure to expats and business in West Africa made me comprehend the value and essence of having life and assets spread across borders.

There were thousands of people there, such as the Lebanese, who used multiple residencies, passports, and corporate structures to stay nimble, prosperous, and self-reliant.

This was long before investment migration was on the mainstream radar.

What was your proudest moment as a service provider?

Seeing a client experience that newfound sense of freedom when he gets his first residency or second citizenship is priceless.

But I am equally satisfied when we help clients step back from costly and excessive strategies that may not actually benefit them.

Which investment migration market development has surprised you the most in the last year?

That the exodus from the Gulf region has not been greater.

If you could go ten years back in time, what business decision would you change?

Simple one: Start my business sooner.

What investment migration industry personality do you most admire?

I mostly mind my own business.

If all goes according to plan, what will you be doing five years from now?

I don’t have a plan. Staying flexible in a world of chaos and unpredictability is my preferred approach.

How prepared are you for sudden geopolitical shifts?
