Citizenship Timeline and Requirements

Investors holding an Alien Resident Certificate may qualify for permanent residency after five years of continuous residence, requiring physical presence of at least 183 days annually.

Following the grant of permanent residency, an additional five years of continuous residence are required before citizenship eligibility, during which applicants must maintain physical presence of at least six months per year.

To obtain citizenship, applicants must demonstrate successful integration into Taiwanese society by meeting several requirements: proficiency in Mandarin or Taiwanese, passing a civics and history examination, and proof of financial independence.

Financial requirements include earning income equivalent to at least twice the national minimum wage during the 12 months preceding the application, plus net assets of at least NT$5 million (US$160,000), which may include property holdings.

Taiwan naturalization requires renunciation of all other citizenships, as dual citizenship is not permitted under the current nationality law.
