Get Golden Visa announces the release of its latest whitepaper, “The Great American Exodus Re-Visit 2024,” revealing a significant increase in the number of Americans seeking residency alternatives abroad.

Building on the results of the 2022 version, this updated research offers new perspectives on the social and economic forces driving Americans to look for chances in other countries.

The whitepaper cites ten key reasons why Americans are looking into second residency options, with economic and societal issues at the forefront.

The American Migration Surge

There are currently about 5.4 million Americans living overseas, which, if counted as a state, would make it the 23rd most populous in the United States.

This striking figure highlights a larger trend in American migration that is fueled by increased economic insecurity and living expenses, as well as a growing yearning for personal security outside of the United States.

Economic Pressures: The Search for Stability

Murat Coskun, Managing Partner of Get Golden Visa, states, “This migration trend reflects a broad sentiment that transcends political divides. Americans from various backgrounds are seeking a higher quality of life and greater stability, which are becoming harder to find at home.”

1,300 Americans Renounced Their Citizenship in Early 2024

In a notable example of this trend, more than 1,300 Americans formally resigned their citizenship in the first half of 2024.

This is a significant increase over previous years, when an average of 5,000 renunciations occurred per year between 2014 and 2016. The latest spike suggests that motivations for leaving the United States go beyond financial reasons.
