Panama Independent Means Visa Approval Volume on Track for All-Time High in 2023
In Panama, income-based visas are flying off the shelf like never before, while investment-based visa demand is plateauing.
The Panama Qualified Investor Visa allows those who invest at least US$300,000 (US$500,000 after October 2022) to qualify for immediate permanent residency in Panama.
The program imposes no restrictions on the type or location of the property.
Property investment is not the only route to qualification for the Qualified Investor Visa program; applicants may also invest in publicly traded securities or make bank deposits in Panama.

Appetite for Panama’s investor visas is dwindling. People of independent means, however, are relocating to the country in record numbers.
Panama has approved 388 investor visas so far in 2023. In the last six years, investors account for 16% of all residence permits issued.
“Most of our clients now pick either the Qualified Investor or Friendly Nations visas,” says Savannah Bruce.
So far in 2022, Panama has approved 1,229 such visas for main applicants, nearly as many as in the three preceding years combined.
Panama will keep its Qualified Investor Visa minimum investment requirement for real estate at US$300,000 for another two years.
