Five years after he first began working as a writer for IMI, Ahmad Abbas today formally steps up to become the editor of IMI’s flagship publication, IMI Daily.
Regular readers are already familiar with his name: Over the last year, Abbas has gradually taken over the editorial work of our news reporting, and his name appears in the byline of most of our news stories.
Additionally, Ahmad has spent several years editing articles contributed to IMI by our Pro members and preparing sponsored articles for our corporate partners.
Today, he officially becomes IMI Daily’s editor, with responsibility for the tone and content of the publication, which in turn are guided by our founding values:
- Free people and free markets
Through our work, we aim to advance the cause of individual liberty, with an emphasis on freedom of movement, freedom of conscience, and economic freedom. - Independent journalism
We are not beholden to any party or interest group. Commercial considerations do not inform our editorial decisions. - Quality and integrity
We aim for the highest standards of clarity, precision, efficiency, and honesty in our reporting and business dealings.
A Jordanian national now based in Amman, Abbas has spent several years living in the United States and has a degree in Industrial Engineering. Before joining IMI on a part-time basis in 2019, he was a Senior Business Development Officer at Reach Immigration, one of the MENA region’s largest RCBI companies, where he specialized in Canadian programs.
“When I first talked to Christian about joining IMI,” Abbas recalls, “I wanted to do something challenging and rewarding, and boy did I get what I bargained for.”
Abbas, in his own words, “was IMI’s biggest fan” and was elated when he published his first article. “It was a big moment for me,” Abbas said, “because I was, and remain, fascinated by this industry. Being able to take a step back and look at it from an impartial, macro level is very different from working in it.”
Abbas has played a crucial role in IMI’s commercial development, not only by taking on editorial responsibilities but also by building relationships with our commercial partners.
“After years of working together,” IMI’s Founding Editor, Christian Henrik Nesheim, remarked, “I have come to know Ahmad as a man embodying the three chief qualities I look for in a long-term partner: High energy, high intelligence, and high integrity. He has been quick on the uptake, humble and receptive to feedback, and able to rise to the occasion when allocated gradually greater responsibility. It is only natural that he now formally takes on the title of editor, a role he has already filled in practice for some time.”
Going forward, Nesheim will take on the role of Executive Chairman at IMI. Now liberated from the day-to-day responsibility of managing news reporting in the IMI Daily publication, Nesheim will work full-time on the development and commercial strategy of IMI more broadly, focusing on growing the company’s Events, Promotions, and Research divisions.
