Bahamas Amendment Lays Foundation for New Residence by Investment Program
An amendment to the country’s Immigration Act would allow the Bahamian government to specify investment amounts and types starting next month.
The Bahamas offer immediate permanent residency status to investors who either buy a home for at least $750,000 or invest an amount of similar or greater magnitude in a local business that employs Bahamians.
To maintain the permanent status, investors must spend at least 90 days each year in the Bahamas.
After ten years of de factor residency, investors are eligible to apply for naturalization in the Bahamas.

Requirements to qualify for citizenship
The Bahamas Economic Permanent Residence program grants permanent residence status to applicants immediately upon approval. Retention of the PR is contingent upon the applicant’s spending no fewer than 90 days per year in The Bahamas.
After having held PR for ten years, during six of which the applicant must have been a de facto resident in the country, the investor can apply to naturalize as a Bahamian citizen.
The decision on whether to grant citizenship is a discretionary one.
