Program Overview

Peru Independent Means Visa (Rentista)

Peru grants Rentista visas of indefinite validity to those who can demonstrate a regular monthly income exceeding US$1,000.

After two years of living in Peru – spending at least 183 days a year in the country – the applicant is eligible for citizenship, subject to proficiency in Spanish.

For those not aiming for citizenship, Peruvian permanent residency is available after three years of continuous residency.

How to Qualify

To qualify for Peru’s Rentista visa, an applicant must demonstrate a monthly income of at least US$1,000, which must be declared in Peru and received by a Peruvian financial institution recognized by the government.

For each dependent included in the application, an additional monthly income of US$500 is required.

Main applicants can include a spouse, as well as child dependents under 25 years of age.

Citizenship Timeline and Requirements

The Rentista visa is valid indefinitely but is not classified as a permanent residency. The applicant may lose the residency if absent for a period of more than 6 months cumulatively during a calendar year.

After 2 years of continuous residency, the applicant may apply for citizenship. The applicant must prove ties to the country (by, for example, owning residential property or having a local club membership), and demonstrate knowledge of the Spanish language and the culture and values of the country.

If the applicant does not want to apply for citizenship, he may renew the existing residency permit and apply for permanent residency after 3 years of continuous residency. The permanent residency permit allows the applicant to live and work indefinitely in Peru.
