The Panama Friendly Nations Visa is a residence-by-investment program designed for citizens of countries with strong professional, economic, and investment ties to Panama.

With a minimum investment of US$200,000, the program provides a straightforward pathway to residency, with options for real estate investment, fixed-term deposits, or employment.

It is particularly notable for its flexible requirements, lack of physical presence obligations, and relatively fast processing timelines.

How to Qualify

To qualify for the Panama Friendly Nations Visa, applicants must meet the following conditions:

Eligibility Based on Nationality:

Applicants must be nationals of some 60 countries deemed as having friendly, professional, economic, and investment relations with Panama. Eligible countries include:

  • United States
  • Canada
  • United Kingdom
  • Germany
  • France
  • Japan
  • South Korea
  • Australia
  • Spain
  • Switzerland

Documentation:

Applicants must submit the following documents:

  • Power of Attorney and Application Letter
  • Three (3) Passport-Sized Photographs
  • Authenticated Copy of Passport
  • Police Clearance Certificate
  • Health Certificate
  • Sworn Declaration of Personal Background

Application Fees:

  • US$250 for the National Treasury
  • US$800 for the National Immigration Service

Investment or Employment Requirements:

There are three main pathways to qualify:

Through Employment:

  • A letter from an employer in Panama on company letterhead, signed by the legal representative, indicating the applicant’s position and salary.
  • Public Registry Certificate of the employing company.
  • Copy of the company’s business license.
  • Copy of the work permit request submitted to the Ministry of Labor (MITRADEL), signed by both the applicant and the legal representative.

Through Real Estate Investment:

  • Proof of ownership of real estate in Panama worth at least US$200,000.
  • The property can be owned personally, through a Panamanian company in which the applicant is the final beneficiary, or through a private foundation where the applicant is the founder and final beneficiary.
  • The property purchase can be financed through a local Panamanian bank.

Through Fixed-Term Deposit:

  • A certificate from a Panamanian bank confirming a fixed-term deposit of at least US$200,000, free of liens, with a validity of three years.
  • The deposit can be made in the applicant’s name, a company where the applicant is the final beneficiary, or a private foundation where the applicant is the founder and final beneficiary.

  1. Residency Duration: Maintain legal residency in Panama for at least five consecutive years.
  2. Integration: Demonstrate ties to Panama, including economic, professional, or social integration.
  3. Spanish Language Requirement: Applicants must have basic proficiency in Spanish.
  4. Oath of Allegiance: Applicants must renounce their original nationality and swear allegiance to Panama.
