Program Overview

Nepal Retiree Residence

A residency for retired foreigners who wish to live in Nepal. Applicants must be 60 years or older, demonstrate a US$20,000 bank balance, and have a minimum annual income of US$20,000. Renewals require a local expenditure statement of at least US$20,000 for the previous year.

The visa is valid for one year and is renewable. Foreigners typically qualify for Nepalese citizenship after 15 consecutive years of lawful residence in Nepal.

How to Qualify

 To qualify for the Nepal Non-Lucrative Residency Visa, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Demonstrate financial means:
    • Bank statement of US$20,000
    • Certificate showing regular income of at least US$20,000 per year
  • Provide supporting certificates:
    • Character certificate
    • No objection letter from the concerned country’s embassy
    • Health certificate issued by TU Teaching Hospital
    • Evidence of completing 60 years of age or proof of retirement
  • Travel documents:
    • Copy of a valid passport and a recent Nepalese entry visa
  • Application:
    • Receipt of online application
  • For renewal:
    • Expenditure statement of US$20,000

Citizenship Timeline and Requirements

Naturalization in Nepal typically requires at least 15 consecutive years of lawful residence in the country. Applicants must be able to speak and write Nepali, and maintain good moral character with no criminal record.

Nepal requires renunciation of previous citizenship upon naturalization. The country does not offer traditional permanent residency for foreigners; long-term stays are managed through renewable residential visas.
