Program Overview

Dominican Republic Independent Means Visas

The Dominican Republic’s Rentista and Pensionado visas offer residence permits to those who can demonstrate a passive foreign-sourced income of at least US$1,500 a month.

In both cases, the visa has a four-year validity period and is renewable indefinitely as long as the applicant continues to meet the requirements.

After just two years of residency in the Dominican Republic, the applicant becomes eligible for citizenship.

How to Qualify

The Dominican Republic offers two types of income-based visas:

  • Rentista
  • Jubilado

The permit is valid for four years and can be renewed indefinitely as long as the individual continues to meet the terms. Already after 2 years, however, the individual is eligible to apply for citizenship.

To qualify for residency in the Rentista category:
Applicants must prove a monthly, passive-form income from a foreign source of at least US$2,000, as well as an additional income of US$250 per dependent. Applicants must receive this in a local bank account.

The income may take the form of dividends, annuities, rental income, and similar regularized passive revenue. Income from employment or self-employment does not qualify.

To qualify for residency under the Pensionado category:
Applicants must prove a monthly retirement pension from a foreign government or other recognized institution, a private company, or a bank amounting to at least US$1,500, as well as an additional US$250 per dependent.
