5 Investment Migration Cliffhangers That Could Define 2026
EU and US pressure mounts on Caribbean citizenship programs while new programs emerge in different corners of the globe.
Argentina offers the Inversionista Visa to those who invest ARS1.5 million (about US$6,000) in a business in Argentina, which they must manage themselves.
The initial visa is valid for one year, while the validity upon renewal is three years.
After just two years of living in Argentina, and subject to maintaining the investment, the applicant is eligible for citizenship. A year later, the applicant is also eligible for permanent residency status in Argentina, presuming they have not already obtained citizenship.
Argentina does not permit its nationals to renounce their Argentine citizenships.
Individuals who would like to live in Argentina, but not necessarily run a business there, should consider Argentina’s Independent Means Visas.
To qualify for Argentina’s Inversionista Visa, applicants must present and gain ministerial approval for a business plan and invest at least ARS1.5 million (some US$6,000 in June 2023) in the capitalization of that business.
The capital must be placed in a financial institution recognized by Argentina’s central bank.
There are no limitations on the sector, type, or scale of the business.
The Inversionista Visa is not a passive but an active investor visa, which means the applicant must personally manage the business and be present in Argentina for at least 183 days a year (making him an Argentine tax resident).
The initial Inversionista visa has a validity of just 1 year. At the end of the first year, the applicant can renew the visa and this time obtain a permit valid for 3 years.
Already after two years of living in Argentina, however, the applicant is eligible for citizenship by naturalization, subject to proficiency in the Spanish language.
Those married to an Argentinian, as well as children born in Argentina, can obtain citizenship without any residency period whatsoever.
Due to a quirk in Argentine nationality law, permanent residency is available only after 3 years of residency in the country, i.e., a year longer than it takes to qualify for naturalization.
