General program requirements

To qualify, applicants must invest a combined US$2.5 million in on or more of the following categories:

Residential or commercial real estate in Bermuda;
Bermuda Government Bonds;
The Bermuda Sinking Fund or the Bermuda Trust Fund;
A Bermuda-registered charity in the areas of sports development, youth, seniors, or health;
An existing or new Bermudan business;
Other social or useful ventures that benefit Bermuda, as may be determined by the Minister responsible for immigration.

An application fee of US$2,625 applies.

The main applicant may include a spouse and children under 18. Children aged 18-25 may additionally be included if they are enrolled at an institute of higher learning. 

Program participants may not take up employment in Bermuda, save for such that is directly related to their investment. Dependents may apply separately for a work permit.

Requirements to qualify for citizenship

Applicants must file their applications along with proof of the investment. The Minister will provide a decision within five days (applicants are pre-qualified early in the process). Once approved, the EIC permit is valid for five years, after which holders are eligible to apply for the Residential Certificate, effectively a permanent residence status that allows the applicant and dependents to remain in Bermuda indefinitely. 

Participants who are not absent from Bermuda for more than 450 days in a five-year period – and not absent at all in the 12 months immediately preceding the application – are eligible to apply for British Overseas Territories Citizenship (BOTC).
